About This Class

The 40hr Direct Care Aide program meets the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) curriculum for Home Health and Hospice and is also accepted by the Virginia Department of Social Services for ‘direct patient care staff’ in licensed assisted living facilities.

The course content instructs participants in assisting residents with activities of daily living, patient transfers, nutrition, oral & personal hygiene with “on-the-job” hands-on training to complete the program.

Class Information

The classroom portion of this program is Online.

  • Please verify that you meet the Prerequisites for this class prior to signing up.
  • You may access this class online 24/7 from your desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone.
  • The Online portion of this class is 36 hours.  
  • Online portion MUST be completed within 3 weeks (21 days) of course start date. 

The in person Clinical Training portion of this program is in a Fresh Start Approved Assisted Living Facility.

  • An additional 4 hours of Skills & Clinical Training is required. Clinical training is on-the-job.  Please be prompt with scheduling.

Online Class Dates:

 Hands-On Skills Dates/Times/Location:
  • Hands-on Skills to be completed “on-the-job” at an assisted living facility with trained nurses added to Fresh Start Healthcare approved program. 
  • Four (4) Hours of Skills & Clinical Instruction must be completed within 60-days of Online Class Completion. Please be prompt with scheduling.

Course Completion
