About This Class

COMBO Train-the-Trainer Class
Join us for 3-sections to complete the Train-the-Trainer classes for Medication Aide AND Nurse Aide programs (approximately 3-hours each with recording and attachments).

Train-the-Trainer for Medication Aide (RMA) is intended for RN, LPN, and RPh who wish to teach unlicensed persons and learn how to establish a program and its principles of adult learning, prepare and present lesson plans in a Medication Aide Program (RMA) approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing and the Department of Social Services for Assisted Living facilities.

The student Nurse Aide training course requires 80 hours of lecture/skills (*New Regulation July 2021 states a minimum of 20 hours of Skills within the 80 hours) and a minimum of 40 hours of clinical experience for students to apply to the Virginia Board of Nursing and sit for the state-required Written/Oral & Skills Exams to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). Regulations must be checked regularly for updates.

Class Information

  • Learn online wherever it is convenient for you.
  • We suggest you have a pen and paper to make notes for questions as you learn.
  • “Live-Online” Q&A Discussion will be available at Fresh Start Team meetings… or on scheduled phone calls.
  • Separate GoToMeeting access link will be sent for Team Meetings and/or Q&A Discussions.
  • Three (3) Sections will be covered at your own leisure, anytime within 14-days after starting.
  • Test must be passed with 80% or better to receive certificates.


 Section #1 – *Test = 10-Questions

Entails understanding the specifics of Adult Learners, engaging multiple personalities, emphasis on making learning fun, and how to be interactive in the classroom.

Section #2 – *Test = 10-Questions

68-Hour Medication Aide 
This training course requires a total of 68 hours (40hrs lecture/skills, 8hrs Diabetes, and 20 hours of clinical experience) for students to apply to the Virginia Board of Nursing and sit for the state competency Written Exam (online) to become a Registration Medication Aide (RMA).

Pre-requisites: LPN, RN, Pharmacist

Certification Years: N/A

Section #3 – *Test = 10-Questions

The student Nurse Aide training course requires 80 hours of lecture/skills (*New Regulation July 2021 states a minimum of 20 hours of Skills within the 80 hours) and a minimum of 40 hours of clinical experience for students to apply to the Virginia Board of Nursing and sit for the state-required Written/Oral & Skills Exams to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). *This Nurse Aide Instructor Training is only half of the new required training.

*New Regulations (July 2021) require Nurse Aide Instructors to have a total of 12 hours of Core Curriculum training to teach.

*Fresh Start will offer an additional on-site class for the second half of training (6 hours of Core Curriculum.)

Course Completion
  • Upon successful completion of the course, Certificates will be provided within 14 Business Days (count ONLY Monday through Friday non-holidays).
